Hollywood Park Closes
Hollywood Park racetrack closed its doors for good after 75 years of horse racing. This story documents the last race, and some last moments of employees who worked there. This was my first time covering horse racing and I had the good luck to meet two gentlemen who would become my mentors, Bill Mochon and Shig Kikkawa, legendary photographers. They took me under their wings and showed me the ropes. Horse racing is quite different from other sports in the way photographers can literally be “on the field” with the athletes. Bill and Shig literally showed me where I could stand to find the best images. None of my horse racing coverage would have been possible without their generosity.
